The beautiful thing about living in Culver City is that we’re a small, close-knit community where we can see the impact of our actions play out in our neighborhoods and streets. The affordability crisis was a long time in the making and has roots in national policies and global economics.  But that doesn’t mean the decisions we make here in Culver City aren’t important and won’t positively impact us, our neighbors, students and anyone hoping to make a decent life in our extended community.

The moral case for investing in affordability is clear. Our Culver’s panel will focus on ideas we can adopt in our community, now or in the near future.  Here are some topics we’ll discuss:

  • Enabling the development of multi-unit housing in underutilized areas like Sepulveda and Washington Blvds.
  • Renter Protections and Rights that will prevent our neighbors from being displaced or falling into homelessness.
  • Childcare.  Culver City is already a provider of childcare, and a strategic partnership with CCUSD could increase access and lower costs.
  • Public transportation, walking and cycling can be real alternatives to owning multiple cars, one of the highest cost modes of transportation.
  • Federal funding for healthcare is being slashed, shifting the costs to local communities and policyholders.  The CA Billionaire Tax is an alternative approach that will be decided this year.

Costs for housing, childcare, groceries and basic necessities are all rising while entire industries and jobs that support families are disappearing.

In Culver City we have choices to make. Join us for a conversation that can benefit us all.
