Karakatsanis is one of the leading abolitionist voices within the legal profession. The founder of the Civil Rights Corps, he is a graduate of Yale University and Harvard Law School and was named 2016 Trial Lawyer of the Year. His notable media appearances include The Daily Show and The Breakfast Club.
His first book: Usual Cruelty: The Complicity of Lawyers in the Criminal Injustice System, was published by the New Press in 2019, and his 2024 article “The Body Camera: The Language of Our Dreams” is available to read free online from the Yale Journal of Law and Liberation.
