If your New Year’s resolutions include speaking truth to power and getting more involved in the Democratic Party, why not consider joining a caucus?
As of this writing, the California Democratic Party recognizes 19 different caucuses. Some are more issue oriented like the Environmental Caucus or the Children’s Caucus. Others are more identity oriented like the Women’s Caucus or the Irish American Caucus. Or you could join a raucous caucus like the Progressive Caucus (known affectionately as the “Troublemaker’s Caucus”) or the Senior Caucus. About the latter, don’t be put off by the name. January is the perfect time to join. Under Party rules, caucus memberships run very strictly January to December. (They really mean it. Don’t try to join on New Year’s Eve or your membership will expire at midnight.) Happy New Year!
