Our meeting in October will feature a number of speakers presenting their suggestions and perspectives on getting out the vote for November’s election.

One of our speakers will be Robert Cole. Mr. Cole was motivated to get into politics after meeting former Mayor Tom Bradley during an event he attended as the student body president of Crenshaw High School. He attended Morehouse College and his first campaign and political employment was for longtime civil rights activist Congressman John Lewis in Atlanta, Georgia. Robert later worked for several state elected officials along the way before being hired in 2007 as a senior staff person for Barack Obama as the California State Director of African American Outreach. He was a delegate for Democratic candidate Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012. Robert is a current member of the Culver City Democratic Club, and several other democratic clubs as well. Robert has a company, Ground Zero Communications, a full service campaign and political strategy company. He is married to Karen R. Cole, MD, MPH, MBA, Neuro-radiologist, and has two children, Raleah Cole, age 12 and Karsten Cole, age 6.

Another of our speakers will be Sydney Kamlager, District Director for Assemblymember Holly Mitchell. Prior to working for the Assemblymember, she was Director of External Affairs for Crystal Stairs, and was responsible for their policy agenda, community outreach, communications and development. While at Crystal Stairs, she created Community Voices, a parent advocacy group that trained parent leaders, enhanced the visibility and policy influence of the agency, and developed its signature fundraising event. Ms. Kamlager has over 15 years experience working in the non-profit arena and has committed herself to focusing on areas of equity and creating opportunities for structural change within current systems.

Ms. Kamlager is a graduate of the University of Southern California and Carnegie Mellon University. She currently lives in the 47th Assembly District.
